指在产生四分孢子的世代中，同时具有原植体（thallus，soma）的形态结构。原则上在这种体上发生减数分裂的世代均应称为四分孢子体，但通常只在真红藻中，与果孢子体对应时而使用这个名称，其他的场合则只称孢子体。
