乾隆丁未（公元1787年）武科进士赐探花及第，遂得“探花公”雅号。得乾隆信任，初委以皇宫护卫之职，后升为中军参将，兼理海坛岛左营游击，赴福建海疆镇守。善骑射，身先士卒，深得士兵爱戴，最后死在守土卫国岗位上，终年56岁。
